The Iconic Puzzle Game Couldn't Succeed at The Game Awards — An Additional Classification Could Fix That

As any prominent honors show nears, there’s always a clamor to include of new categories to acknowledge underappreciated efforts and fill the spirits of fans who have specialized interests.

My colleague has already made advocating for terror-themed awards. It would be amazing. The same goes for strategy board titles, representing a dedicated supporter's campaign. However, I must insist if I try to elbow in front since similar to dedicated enthusiasts, I have a cast-iron argument backing this proposal remains most pressing above others. The demand is this: It's essential to create a classification for brain-teasing titles.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Categorizing art by genre defies precise measurement; it remains highly personal, and it will always spark debates resulting in unclear classifications. It's understandable that cinema institutions avoid this approach. However, it represents an essential concession in the world of interactive entertainment, that demonstrate such variety they barely qualify one unified medium.

For the full spectrum of interactive entertainment excellence to gain proper attention, and to ensure all game types to compete fairly, genre categories are essential.

Existing Game Classification System

Prominent interactive entertainment events presently include classifications covering Action, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Between them, these six categories actually cover many game types, and you can find room for numerous titles.

Not so for puzzle games. There’s simply nowhere for their placement. Consider three of outstanding current releases, each quite distinct: building puzzles of one title, intense tile-matching in a different title, engaging interpersonal challenges in another game. Which classification works within current classifications? Nowhere, that’s where.

Recognition Challenges

Many instances occur outstanding logic titles launched regularly that have no home in entertainment awards, if they accidentally match for categories like Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, and the highly challenging Indie races.

  • One classic puzzle game wasn’t nominated for anything that year
  • Another imaginative release was excluded that year
  • Popular arranging title received no acknowledgment recently
  • Only a few brain-teasers managed to sneak into small studio or handheld classifications

Importance of Logic Titles

These are often modest productions, yet the craft behind logic titles holds tremendous importance. Famous handheld logic titles stand as most popular titles worldwide continuing this trend for over a decade.

The famous puzzle experience challenges famous sandbox experiences competing to become most purchased experience; it additionally competes as greatest title ever. Puzzle games are foundational to the art of video games, and they are in conversation with almost every other genre.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Puzzle games wouldn’t have this problem. It would be easy to populate multiple candidates with fascinating, diverse, deserving games each ceremony simply — or rather, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave so many good games out.

Restating the point, these include experiences lacking appropriate categories during prominent ceremonies. Brain-teaser creators operate at the challenging frontier of video game design, creating some of the purest expressions of gaming itself. Comparable to movie stunt professionals, they merit acknowledgment. We shouldn't delay decades.
