The Fifth Toy Story Film Trailer Pits The Beloved Duo Versus a Tablet Computer
Exactly 30 years after the original Toy Story film was released, launching the animation giant as a major film company and bringing viewers to iconic figures like Woody (the actor) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now household names.
Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, providing a glimpse into the storyline but keeping fans wondering how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Frightens the Toys
The preview reveals the young girl — who inherited Andy's toys when he left for college — getting a brand new plaything, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie gets her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.
Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. However, the toys seem to view it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it probably is.
Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
An element the trailer avoids is why the sheriff is returned with his friends in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), traveling with a carnival and assisting giveaway items find good homes.
Certainly, the filmmakers will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him appear in Bonnie's room without warning is a little strange, however. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have come back with Woody. And what about the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?
Continuity from the Last Installment
Fortunately, some aspects are carrying over from the prior film. The last thing the cowboy did before departing for his fresh path was pass his sheriff badge to Jessie (the voice actor), leaving her in charge of the toy domain. The clip shows the insignia pinned to her shirt.
Hopefully she is still the key figure among the group.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
