Norris Edges Out Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
Lando Norris has outscored his teammate at each of the last five race weekends.
The McLaren driver just pipped team-mate and title rival the Australian for the fastest time in the final moments of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
The British racer, who seized the title advantage from his teammate by just one point after taking the win in the Mexican Grand Prix a fortnight back, topped the Melbourne-born driver by 0.023 seconds.
Until that point, Oscar Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver for most of the session before the sprint shootout set to begin at 18:30 GMT.
The Red Bull star, the only other driver in the championship fight, lying with a 36-point deficit behind Norris, finished in 17th position as his Red Bull team ran a different programme.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the only driver to have an incident, though minor, when he rotated at corner four early in the session.
The Japanese lost control over the track edges before spinning across the escape zone, and was blessed to get away with just a slight brush of the barrier.
The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also had a spin, at the conclusion of the practice, turning around through the fast downhill corner approaching the last turn on to the main straight.
The veteran ended the session in 19th place, just behind team-mate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren pair were well clear of the rest of the field, with the German's Sauber P3, over half a second slower than Piastri's pace.
The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was fourth fastest, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto in front of Mercedes' Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
