The January recruitment period is always a time of intense speculation and possible major moves. Several prominent footballers are being linked with transfers away from their present clubs. Here is a look at some of the top figures that are poised to be on the move in January.

Antoine Semenyo

The English defender has continued to excel for Crystal Palace despite a summer transfer to Anfield falling through. As his contract set to run out in the close season, January is the club's last chance to secure a fee for their skipper. A host of top sides, including City and multiple European giants including Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich, reportedly be interested. Yet, a January exit remains unlikely, especially given the coach's reliance on the player.

Brennan Johnson

The Welsh winger has found starting opportunities limited at Spurs this term. Although being the side's top scorer the previous campaign, Johnson has begun just a handful of Premier League games. Reports suggest the London club is open to a transfer for the correct valuation, believed to be in the around £40 million. Bournemouth are currently at the front of the queue, with Crystal Palace, Aston Villa, and Brentford also showing an inquiry.

Spurs rate the Welsh international at around forty million pounds.

Rúben Neves

The Portugal playmaker might be set for a return to the English top flight following a spell in Saudi Arabia. Still just twenty-eight, while his agreement expiring in the summer, he is a possible bargain. Clubs like Manchester United and Liverpool are connected to the former Wolves man. Furthermore, there have been rumours from Spanish media that he would be prepared to take a pay cut for a move to the Spanish giants.

Marc-André ter Stegen

The experienced German goalkeeper is now as third-choice at Barça under new coach Hansi Flick. Having fallen out of favour and undergone surgery, a winter departure looks highly probable. Aston Villa were once linked as a potential suitor, but that move currently seems unlikely. Instead, clubs from Saudi Arabia and Turkey are thought to be showing interest in the keeper.

Ivan Toney

The prolific England striker has kept scoring frequently in Saudi Arabia. Coming back to the Premier League might enhance his dwindling hopes of making the England World Cup. However, arranging a deal poses significant hurdles. Al-Ahli do not wish to sell him, and his alleged enormous salary make any move complicated. Following impressing at the Under-19 European Championship, he has become a regular in the AZ Alkmaar side. This 19-year-old is widely tipped to make a big-money transfer this month.
