Officers reported they were notified by a man who noticed a automobile in Hanau smeared with reddish fluid

Approximately fifty vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to authorities.

Vehicles, walls and postal boxes were marked, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they reported in a official communication.

Officers state they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a resident discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored fluid.

The liquid had been drawn in the pattern of a banned symbol, they added.

Officers then discovered many other vandalized automobiles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.

These symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.

Law enforcement say initial examinations suggest the liquid was probably blood from a person.

"There is still no indication as to where it came from; authorities are not yet aware of any harm in association with the event," they added.

City officials announced they were attempting "to resolve the case" and have appealed to the public for details.

A high-ranking official said the attack made him speechless and had to be solved promptly.

"This event hits the very heart of Hanau and revives the wounds of the far-right terrorist attack in 2020," he posted on a platform, referring to the death of nine individuals by a shooter aiming at people of immigrant origin in February 2020.
